Running for fitness and charity

Last weekend Canberra hosted the Australian Running Festival. The event was a great opportunity for members of BCT to do some exercise and raise money for charity.

For the last few months, the BCT Running for Alannah & Madeline (RAM) Crew have been pounding the pavement at all hours in preparation for the event. In addition to the training, the team has been raising money for the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.

BCT chose to support the Foundation as they help some of society’s most vulnerable people: children who suffer from violence and bullying. Additionally, they provide advocacy and education programs for parents and schools on dealing with bullying (particularly cyber-bullying), a critically important subject in today’s society.

So far, the team has raised $3,500 for the foundation. The fundraising was led by Renae Docherty, who was awarded BCT’s Charity Champion award. Donations can still be made at the BCT RAM Crew fundraising page.

The Running Festival was a great success for the BCT RAM Crew, with participation in the 5, 10 and 21 km events. Well done to all of our runners, including a massive effort from Adrienne Gross, Bec Dyson, Ross Paterson and Renae Docherty in the half marathon.

Special thanks should go to Maddy Rentmeester for being our team lead, training coordinator and organiser of the BBQ at the end of the event. Overall it was a positive experience for runners of all abilities. As well as a great opportunity for the team to be healthy and raise money for charity.

We are looking forward to continuing our engagement program in the future, supporting cause that are important to our team, our families and our community.
